Tuning into the unit ‘Earth’ under the transdisciplinary theme “How the world works” was done through a mystery box activity, wherein students in groups of 4, selected few pictures of various landforms and pasted them on an A3 size paper to brainstorm on how these pictures are connected. A Prior Knowledge assessment was conducted where the students were shown a video ‘Magic of planet Earth’ and were later asked to write the natural features of the Earth. The prior knowledge of landforms was also assessed through a cut and paste activity. Thereafter students matched the key concepts to the lines of inquiry. For the visual understanding of cosmic explosion and the formation of universe and planets a ‘Balloon explosion’ experiment was done and students wrote the reflection of the experiment in the format given to them. In order to gain understanding of concepts like tectonic plates, Pangaea, oceans and continents, students were shown videos followed by class discussions and world map marking of oceans and continents. Students further gained knowledge and inquired about the landforms by researching on i-Pads. Then they presented the information to the class and filled up a collation sheet.
